It’s time to prepare our bodies for warmer weather. One of the best ways we can prepare is to stay hydrated! Hydration is vital to the health functioning of our system. It supports organ function, regulates body temperature, and helps to flush waste out of our bodies.
So how much water should you have?
Well, that depends on you! Did you know that our hydration needs change from day to day? For example: if you have been very active and working up a sweat, your body will require additional water. On the other end, if you have been sedentary, and eating hydrating food items, you will need less water to stay hydrated. One rule of thumb is when you are thirsty drink but remember seasoned seniors may lose the sense of being thirty, so you may have to be more intentional.
On average people need half their body weight in ounces of water per day.
For example: 150lbs -> 75 ounces of fluids
Be Prepared
- It’s a good idea to always have a water bottle on hand. Get a 24-32oz reusable water bottle and sip throughout the day and refill when empty.
- Always try to drink water upon waking and before a meal.
- Make a batch of fruit water
Don’t like water? No problem!
Hydrating foods like broth-based soup, fruits, vegetables, gelatin, popsicles, and herbal teas are great hydrating options.
Enjoy your spring and stay hydrated!
